Cook Shoppe is the new kid on the block! I was excited to go to brunch here because of pictures that i've seen of their beautiful garden patio! I loved the plant wall and the whole environment, though it was a biiiit warm in there haha. For my entree, I ordered the Church Street Brunch Bowl, which came with purple rice, fried pork belly, scallions, mushrooms, and a poached egg. I thought the pork belly was amazing, but the rest of the dish fell a little short. It may have needed more seasoning or one more flavor component. I got to try the chicken and waffles which were also good. The chicken was a bit dry, but the waffles were extra fluffy! I also ordered a drink that resembled a vodka lemonade, and that was great! The name was super creative and I totally don't remember it lol. Also noteworthy was the service! Our waiter Daniel was really attentive and friendly. It definitely brought my Cook Shoppe experience up to 4 stars!

We walked in at 9 AM on Sunday and happened to get seated right away, because the reservations were for a later time. Other people, however, walked in and didn't want to wait even though all of the tables in front were empty (but reserved). Probably a good tip for you if you're planning ahead... reserve, reserve, reserve! Cook Shoppe is conveniently located right off of Market, next to Safeway and Whole Foods. Great location! The restaurant itself is super IG-worthy, and it honestly seems like the place is spotless. LOVE that they have individual cushions for your back on the bench seats, because it makes a world of a difference. Even the lighting decor is beautiful, and the mirrors throughout the restaurant only brighten the restaurant even more. Really love the decor in this restaurant. The greeter, server, and help staff were all pleasant to speak with and attentive. They checked on us a lot, which is sincerely appreciated. And lastly, the food! I ordered the dolce de leche french toast. I personally loved the contrast in texture of the crust in comparison to the center of the bread. It was a little hard to cut, but I ain't no quitter and demolished that bread. Loved the amount of berries on top as well... solid french toast, although not sure I could point out the dolce de leche flavor. The boyfriend ordered the burger: *caution* it'll get MESSY from the runny egg.

Great brunch spot with amazing drinks and tasty food. Let's start off with the location, the restaurant has such a quaint entrance, and when you walk inside, there are non-stop surprises. There's a bar seating area, table seating, and when you walk through the open kitchen, there's a really nice garden patio (very IG-worthy). We had the bottomless mimosas, there were 5 different type: classic orange juice mimosa, blackberry (delicious), lychee (my favorite one!), blood orange, and I can't remember the last one, but it was also pretty good. I also had the rosemary blue ball drink because (1) i love gin and (2) it looked really pretty. The drink had floral nodes, really nice sugar rimmed, and the right amount of sour. It was fantastic. As for the entrees, I ordered the enchiladas and it really blew my mind! It tasted a lot more different than the other ones that I've had, it was fluffy and had a lot of good savory nodes to it. I also ordered the chicken & waffles and it was delish, but way too many waffles since I had another entree prior. Overall, great ambience, was really impressed with Daniel who was super charming and helpful the entire brunch. He definitely made it feel fun and welcoming :)

I made a reservation here for 7 pm on Thursday. It was not crowded at all and there is a lot of space inside. It seems pretty small from the outside, but it goes straight to the back with outdoor seating. We thought the interior was super cute and well designed. Our waiter was really attentive and so amazing. We ordered the truffle dumplings, heirloom tomato salad, mussels, sole, creme brulee, and beignets. We also got the red ruby and lychee sparkler. We both really liked our cocktails; they weren't too strong and went really well with our meal. The dumplings definitely weren't what we expected, but still tasted really good! The salad was pretty basic, but was a nice started. The mussels were amazing. The sauce tasted really good with the bread they gave. The sole was also pretty good. The creme brulee was also really good! I would recommend that for the dessert. The beignets were also good, but the sauce it was in was sour? We didn't really like it, but I think if you enjoy passionfruit/tart things it would be good. I would definitely come back here. It is a bit more expensive, but the food quality is worth it. It is also a good place for groups, as it is big and spacious.

Came here on Wednesday for lunch with two friends and a dog. We made a reservation on yelp (which was super convenient) but there was no wait when we arrived. The first person that we interacted with- assuming they were the host, was not very friendly or welcoming toward us. There was no eye contact and they kept on interrupting me when I try to talk. "Hi, we have a reservation for.." "NAME?" Or "I saw on Yelp that you guys have a pa.." "yeah we have a patio". and that is the reason that I've given this a 4 star. On the other hand, our waiter Daniel was a pure delight. He was welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable about the food they were serving. We had a great time and a great dining experience because of him Food wise, I got a Monte Cristo sandwich and my two friends both got the chicken avocado sandwiches. They all agreed that mine was the tastiest (but also the heaviest since it was deep fried). The heated patio was great. It's not outdoor so there's no wind coming in. Really spacious and great for people with pets or groups. I would definitely recommend this place and I will definitely go for brunch (Sat & Sun) next time

I'm one of the few people who didn't care for Chow so I wasn't sad when they closed. Ok, maybe I shouldn't have put that out there because I can f-e-e-l the virtual death stares from longtime Chow customers right now.... While the prices were pretty reasonable, Chow had the same tired menu for yeeaaaaarrrs, and I found that the food quality faceplanted in the last 5 years. I think Cook Shoppe is a welcome replacement. It's more of an occassional "nice" sit-down restaurant because it's pricey but I found the Californian fare at Cook Shoppe to be better than Chow's more traditional American fare. I think the Castro's food scene hasn't quite caught up with the rest of SF but it's improving with new businesses like Cook Shoppe. I visited Cook Shoppe during the soft opening in early May so I'm way late on this review. We had an early dinner and had the entire dog-friendly patio to ourselves: https://bit.ly/2X29tZb. We ordered the following: * BLT Deviled Eggs w/ candied zoe's bacon, tomato, little gem cup (4 pc - $6): https://bit.ly/2KJURw3 * She Crab Soup w/ cream sherry, velvety bisque, herbs, lump crab, ca paddlefish caviar crouton ($14): https://bit.ly/2YcBajf * Housemade Meatball w/ wild hive polenta, herbs, parmesan ($12): https://bit.ly/2Lf8KS8 * Crab Stuffed Shrimp: Imperial lump crab stuffing, prosciutto, quinoa & rice pilaf, pesto cream ($30): https://bit.ly/2ZMjNGo * Slow BBQ'd Snake River Farms Pork Belly, sub mac & cheese for quinoa & rice pilaf, micro herb salad ($30): https://bit.ly/2ZJCeeU Everything was good but the standout dish was the Housemade Meatball w/ polenta! This comforting bowl of deliciousness was what I needed after a long day at work. The juicy and flavorful meatball was served over a hearty bed of rich and creamy polenta. For $12, it was a good value (compared to the rest of the menu) and a meal in itself. It was my friend's birthday so the sweet and talented pastry chef brought out a Complimentary Dessert: Churro w/ caramel cream, warm mexican spiced chocolate poured tableside: https://bit.ly/2Y9dv3q. This came as a surprise and had I known, we wouldn't have ordered the Caramel Popcorn Cake w/ popcorn ganache, vanilla cake, caramel drizzle, housemade caramel corn ($25)... BUT can we take a moment to appreciate how beautiful this cake is: https://bit.ly/2Fudr6L. We were stuffed so I felt so bad that we couldn't indulge more in the gorgeously prepared desserts. Service was warm, welcoming, and attentive - everything you would expect from a neighborhood business in The Castro. A lot of the staff came by to say, Hi to Tater Tot and talked about their dogs at home. A tiny thing that kinda bugged me is the upselling. I know it's the staff's job but we ordered a good amount of food for two people yet there were suggestions to order a salad (in addition to the 3 apps), more bottled water, more spritzers, coffee, and tea (no liquor license at the time). What I adore most about Cook Shoppe is the ambiance and decor. It reminds me of a mini version of Anthropologie's Terrain Café in the Stanford Shopping Center - lots of greenery, lush living wall, and whimsical outdoor patio with string lights. Love that the patio is dog-friendly (except weekends). Overall, a good addition to The Castro and if you appreciate aesthetics (and photogenic desserts), you'll want to give Cook Shoppe a try!

Breakfast at noon! Oh man. Nothing makes me happier than fuss-free breakfast in the afternoon. What's better? Making your own brunch at noon! I'll tell you of my magical ways. So they serve ala carte breakfast during afternoon lunch service. We ordered eggs, bacon, pancake, burger, fries, and that amazing Monte Cristo with a delicious side salad. Oh, the Monte Cristo is made with funnel cake batter. That made my daughter super happy! We enjoyed coffee before a glass of wine. They have a great lineup - nothing fancy, but not basic either. My daughter and I picked and chose what we wanted to eat from what we ordered for our self made "brunch". I wish they had gluten free pancakes. The restaurant has so much beautiful greenery everywhere! So relaxing I just love that! The outdoor covered patio has a living wall with more strategically placed foliage. Why does this matter? Welp. Spider ferns are good air purifiers. They also make the space relaxing. Plants are healthy and relaxing. You know this because you're super smart. Prepare to enjoy friendly, efficient, non-rushed outstanding service. Everyone works together to make sure you have everything you need in order to have a great dining experience! Perfection. I'm here for it all. I have to come back to try dinner! Thanks to my Yelp friend Fancypants X's review and photos, I made a reservation and visited this neighborhood gem! PS: it's super close to the trains if public transportation is your thing. We took uber because parking is very challenging here and we wanted to walk around the Castro afterward. Go. Enjoy. Thank me later.

4.5 stars rounded up Doting service, a back patio with plant-covered walls that makes one want to luxuriate all afternoon, & exciting menu offerings -- Cook Shoppe seems to have the recipe for staying power that many former Castro eateries lacked. Cook Shoppe is extremely well put-together despite being just shy of two months old. At Saturday brunch, we shared dulce de leche french toast which was perfection, so creamy & sweet. My lavender lemonade had real bits of lavender floating about. And the avocado toast I ordered was topped with a fried egg, the runny yolk coated the colorful & festive-looking dish. Seriously gave my homemade avo toast a run for its money! Great first experience, very interested in returning for dinner.
